Smiling couple at dinner in a restaurant, she tries his glasses to read on her phone

Glasses

Progressive lenses in Imperia

One pair of glasses to see far away, at the computer and up close.

Holding your phone further away to read a message, taking your glasses off and putting them back on ten times a day, a restaurant menu that seems printed too small. Sooner or later it happens to everyone, and it’s presbyopia.

Progressive lenses let you see at every distance with a single pair of glasses, without constantly switching. With us, in Imperia, you choose them after an eye test, centred on your face and fitted in our workshop.

How they work

Three distances, one lens

A progressive lens has different zones for different distances, one above the other.

  • At the topFor looking into the distance, when driving or out and about.
  • In the middleFor intermediate distances, such as a computer screen or the dashboard.
  • At the bottomFor reading your phone, a book or a label up close.
  • No jumpsYou move gradually from one zone to the next, without the line of old bifocal lenses.

Hoya Center

Lenses made to measure

The Hoya Center station for made-to-measure lenses at the Poliottica shop in Imperia

We are a Hoya Center and work with Hoya progressive lenses, made to measure for your glasses. During the eye test we ask how you use your eyes, how long you spend at the computer, whether you drive often, what you read, so we can choose the lens that suits your days.

For people who spend many hours in an office we also consider a pair of glasses dedicated to computer distances, to use alongside the progressives.

Centring

What is the centring of progressive lenses

Customer in front of the visuReal Master AI mirror for lens centring, with the measurements on the iPad, at Poliottica in Imperia

Centring is the position of the lenses in front of your eyes, and with progressives it matters even more. Each zone of the lens must sit where your eyes look, in the frame you have chosen.

That’s why we take the measurements with Hoya’s visuReal Master AI, video centring with artificial intelligence. You look into a mirror with the frame on your face, and the system also measures the tilt of the glasses and their distance from your eyes, data used to personalise the progressive lens.

Then we fit the lenses in our in-house workshop, which specialises in fitting progressive lenses.

Frequently asked questions

Your most common questions

What are progressive lenses?

They are lenses that correct distance, intermediate and near vision in a single lens, moving gradually from one zone to the next. They’re needed when presbyopia arrives and reading close up becomes tiring.

How do you get used to progressive lenses?

Wear them consistently from day one and, to read, lower your gaze rather than your head. When you collect them we explain how to use them. If something doesn’t feel right, come back and we’ll check them.

How much do progressive lenses cost?

It depends on the type of lens, the coatings and your prescription. After the eye test we show you the solutions that suit you, each with its price, and you choose at your own pace.

Reading glasses or progressives, which is better?

Reading glasses only work up close and have to come off to look into the distance, progressives stay with you all day. We talk about it in the article on presbyopia (in Italian).
